Posted
Tri Kappa won first place at Warsaw Education Foundation’s 2018 Community Quiz Bowl Tuesday night by answering 44 of 60 questions correctly.

The winning team – which included Lori Roe, Patty Beres, Sea Grandon, Lindsay Reinholt and Shari Skaggs – takes home the traveling trophy and the first-place plaque. Second and third places also are awarded plaques.

Second place this year went to the Washington STEM Academy team, with Warsaw Community High School Men’s Team taking third.

Each team receives a participant pennant for office display.

The 19th annual event, a fundraiser for the WEF, was held in the Warsaw Community High School Tiger Den. It featured 52 teams, the most of any year, according to WEF Executive Director Barb Smolen.

Each team donates a registration fee to participate and answer questions like, “Which rock group recorded a jingle for Kellogg’s Rice Krispies in 1964?” The answer: The Rolling Stones.

The questions are in four categories, with each category having 15 questions. The categories for 2018 were “2017: Year in Review,” “Academics,” “Flight & Space Travel” and “I Love Rock N Roll.”

Also during the night, donations are sought toward a Warsaw school project. This year, $3,000 was raised for the “Busy as Bees” project at Washington STEM, according to Smolen.

Lake City Bank sponsors the halftime snacks.

Valedictorian level sponsor was Maple Leaf Farms; and Honor Roll level sponsors were Esther Pfleiderer Charitable Trust at 1st Source Bank, Lake City Bank, Teachers Credit Union, Warsaw Breakfast Optimists, Zimmer Biomet, and Pam and Todd Weingart.

Founded in 1987, the Warsaw Education Foundation is a community non-profit organization that raises support for creative academic projects in the Warsaw Community Schools.
