Toy Time Toy Sale This Weekend Benefits CCS Toy GiveawayThis weekend will be one of the biggest Toy Time toy sales in the 28-year history of the consignment sale.

As of Wednesday night, 136 families had dropped off 17,326 toys, with more being brought in Thursday.

That compares to 13,862 in 2020; 15,685 in 2019; 18,936 in 2018; and around 12,000 in 2017, according to figures provided by Ami Pitt, Toy Time organizer and Combined Community Services (CCS) Project Independence case manager and Hand-Up case manager.

“It’s going to be an awesome sale. We got in fun, fun, fun toys,” she said.

The toy sale is at the Home & Family Arts Building at the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. It benefits the CCS Toy Giveaway, which is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

“We also thank our supporters for helping with the giveaway – the fairgrounds, ABATE, Toys for Tots, Meijer, the Derf family and Dollar General of Ligonier,” Pitt said.

Angie Summers, of Warsaw, has consigned her children’s good, used toys for four years. On Thursday, she dropped off three boxes, two sleds and a large bag of toys for the sale.

“We find it to be a really good activity for our kids to go through their toys that they no longer play with, and are in good condition and that they think other kids would like to play with,” Summers said. “It’s a way for us to declutter in December and it is really important to help others in need.”

By consigning the toys, the Summers family will receive 50% of the proceeds with the other 50% going toward the CCS Toy Giveaway. Any and all toys not sold this weekend will be “rehomed” to children at the Toy Giveaway, Pitt said. Pitt said the Summers are donating twice in that way.

“It doesn’t matter what we get,” Summers said. “But part of it will go into our kids’ savings.”

Her three kids are 13, 10 and 6. “There wasn’t too many toys from the 13-year-old,” Summers said.

The sale is cash only. Pitt said they also are taking every precaution that the Kosciusko County Health Department has suggested.

“It’s a big year,” she said. “It’s one of our biggest years for sure.”
