In response to a recent letter by Alexander Houze, I comment that every description of totalitarian dictatorship he described is correct. One point he failed to mention is that for the type of government he describes to succeed, all firearms must be taken from the citizens and total disarmament must be achieved.
The first part of disarming the citizens begins with mandatory registration. Once the government has the data where the firearms are located, then starts the confiscation process. This has happened in every dictatorship around the globe.
Our president-elect has gone on record as being in favor of firearm registration (Obama campaign Web site 12/11/07). When you hear or read about pending legislation requiring firearm registration, keep this historical fact in mind.
"No dictatorship has ever been imposed on a nation of free men who have not been first required to register their privately owned weapons."
