Tippecanoe Valley Schools Recognized As Red Wagon Corporation

Posted
MENTONE – Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation was recognized as a Red Wagon Corporation during its school board meeting Monday.

The recognition came because during the 2019-2020 school year TVSC participated in the Kids Caring & Sharing philanthropy program supporting Riley Hospital for Children at IU health.

Each year schools are challenged to raise $1 per student. Schools achieving this level of giving are recognized as Red Wagon Schools and receive a decal noting this for a multi-year recognition plaque, according to a letter to Superintendent Blaine Conley from Susan Miles, officer for Kids Caring & Sharing. School corporations where every school achieves Red Wagon status are recognized as Red Wagon Corporations.

Jessica McFarland, corporation treasurer for TVSC, did not have a total dollar amount the school corporation donated to Riley’s, but did say it was at least $1 per student.

The school board also approved several grants, which included a $200,000 Gift VII grant.

According to information provided at the meeting, Cardinal Services, Kosciusko Community Foundation, Kosciusko Community LaunchPad and TVSC worked collaboratively to apply for funding for multiple initiatives in the community. One part of the initiative was  $200,000 to be used for start-up costs for a child care center for infants and toddler of TVSC employees. There will be a cost for the use of the facility and the funds will be used to sustain costs for each consecutive year.

Other grants approved during Monday’s meeting include a $2,692 KEYS grant from the Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services. The grant will be used for books for fourth-grade students, wood blocks for preschool classrooms, cameras for high school physical education classes and stress relief tools for special needs students.

The school board also approved the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school calendars.

During the 2021-22 school year, teacher orientation day will be Aug. 11, staff development day will be Aug. 12 and students’ first day will be Aug. 13. The last day for students of the school year will be May 25.
