Tip Leads To Man’s Arrest On Drug Charges

CLAYPOOL – A Claypool man is in custody following a tip to police that drug activity was taking place at his home, and more arrests may follow.

That’s according to Claypool Police Department Town Marshal Benjamin Sanders.

Sanders said CPD received a tip to possible illegal drug activity occurring at 201 E. Calhoun St., Claypool. Several people were stopped for traffic violations in the vicinity of that residence, spurring the tip, Sanders said.

With this information, CPD officers began a narcotics investigation, which culminated in the execution of a search warrant on Friday.

During the search of the home, police located drug paraphernalia, marijuana, methamphetamine, syringes and pills, according to Sanders.

Christopher Spangle, 34, of 201 E. Calhoun St., Claypool, was arrested and booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 8:10 a.m. Friday and faces a Level 6 felony charge for possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges for possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

His bond was set at $5,250 for those charges, but he’s also being held on $5,250 bond for a felony probation violation charge, according to arresting documents.

Sanders said the investigation is ongoing, with possible future arrests.

CPD was assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Narcotics Enforcement Team of Kosciusko County (NET 43), Silver Lake Police Department, Lutheran EMS and the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorneys Office.
