Time To Roar, Ladies

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:
Trump has called you pigs, piggy, ugly, stupid, nasty. Trump’s “team” has made sure you have no autonomy over your own bodies. Trump has been accused by dozens of women and found guilty of sexual assault by one woman (and still has not paid his victim what the court ordered.) Trump has denied his friendship with the most prolific sexual predator and trafficker of our time, and refuses to release damaging files which may implicate him. Trump’s sycophants (including religious clergy) are pushing for the reversal of the 19th Amendment — your right to vote — and at a minimum are hoping to nullify your voter registrations if you have had a name change and show up to vote without verification of that change. Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill has now paved the way to declassify many areas of educational study as not professional: nurses, educators, physicians’ assistants, etc., in order to cut/limit reimbursement for higher education costs. By the way, a vast number of the targeted professions is held by women.
J.D. Vance, our vice president and first in line to assume the presidency, has in the past described working women as “bad mothers,” not normal people. He has said mothers entering the work force are putting themselves “on the path to misery.” He has called women without children “miserable cat ladies.”
During the Covid pandemic, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and second in line to assume the presidency, voted several times by proxy — as a congressman. However, earlier this year as Speaker he was strongly opposed to a bill that would allow women on maternal leave to vote on bills by proxy, calling it unconstitutional. (The bill passed, and Johnson was furious.) As House leader, Johnson has not appointed one woman — out of a total number of 33 female House members — to share his power by being named a committee chairperson. –Alex Henderson, Alternet, 2025
Pete Hegseth, director of the Department of Defense (I refuse to call it the Department of War.), has proclaimed “We need moms. But not in the military, especially in combat units.” Once installed in his present position — for which a large number of bipartisan congresspersons agreed he was not qualified — he proceeded to steadily fire female leaders. As a result, women have now been removed from top military jobs.
The Heritage Foundation, creators of Project 2025, Trump’s blueprint for “re-creating” America’s Democracy, “recently hired Scott Yenor to head the Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies. Yenor advocates legalizing sexual discrimination so employers can ‘support traditional family life by hiring only male heads of households.’ He argues that ‘the heroic feminine prioritizes motherhood and wifeliness and celebrates the men who make it possible.’” –The Nation, December, 2025
So, there ya’ go, ladies. Back to the ’50s we go, making America great again and just getting started. Three more years of this …. three more years! Any plans?
