Tigers, Warriors Split Difference At Swimming Meet

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee boys swim team defeated Warsaw 96-90, while the Lady Tigers topped the Lady Warriors 116-68 Saturday at Wawasee Middle School.

Wawasee and Warsaw won six events each in the boys meet. 

Jared Krugman won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.41 and the 500 freestyle in 5:02.18 for the?Warriors.

Wawasee’s Karlson?Hand placed first in the 200 IM (2:10.65), while Brady Claassen scored 212.30 to win the one-meter diving competition and Daegan Kingrey won the 100 freestyle (52.56).

Wawasee’s 400 freestyle relay team of?Bryce?Knepp,?Kingrey, Hand and Krugman won in 3:36.26. 

Warsaw’s team of Zach Lalonde, Grant Knight, Nathan Taylor and Alex Cook took first in the 200 medley relay (1:43.46), while Knight won the 50 freestyle (22.74) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.78), Cook took the 100 butterfly (59.62), and Lalonde won the 100 backstroke (100.56).

Warsaw’s Knight, Cook, Nick?Bazzoni and Gabe Bowers won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.65. 

The?Warsaw girls team won seven events. 

The Lady?Tigers’ team of Leah Reinholt, Delaney Wihebrink,?Taylor?Gunter and Olivia Herman won the 200 medley relay in 2:00.07, while Olivia Herman won the 50 freestyle (26.22), Grayson Kilburn posted a score of 147.75 to win the one-meter diving competition, and Gunter took first in the 100 butterfly (109.17).

Wihebrink took first in the 100 freestyle (56.08) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.22), while Herman, Gracie?Scholl,?Gunter and Wihebrink won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.80.

Wawasee’s Ella Park won the 200 freestyle (2:07.16) and the 500 freestyle (5:37.44). 

Lillian Tyler won the 200 IM in 2:27.38 and the 100 backstroke in 1:08.19 for the Lady?Warriors, while Wawasee’s Alexandra Haberman, Park, Tyler and Atwood won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:06.40. 



Warriors Sweep?Competition At Wawasee Duals

SYRACUSE – The?Wawasee wrestling team went undefeated to win its own duals tournament Saturday.

Wawasee won 67-8 over?Warsaw, 55-22 against Anderson, 54-23 versus Eastside, 39-32 over Mishawaka, and 63-15 over West Noble. 

The Warriors’ Jace?Alexander (120 pounds), Geremia Brooks (132) and Braxton Alexander (138) went 5-0. 

Dylan Tom (1060, Garrett Stuckman (145), Isaiah Faurote (152), Alex Castro (182), Raymon Torres (195) and Isaiah?Tipping (220) all went 4-1 for the?Warriors.

Warsaw went 1-4 to place fifth out of six teams. The?Tigers defeated?West Noble in their fourth match of the day on the strength of pins by Brandon Estepp (160), Josh Pelfrey (170), Griffin Reed (285), Brock Hogenson (132), and Austin Brown (138). 

Mishawaka placed second, Eastside was third, Anderson came in fourth, and West Noble finished in sixth place. 



Warriors?Stung By Hornets

ANGOLA – Austin Miller and Ben Hoffert scored nine points each, but the?Wawasee boys basketball team lost 30-26 Saturday at Angola.

The Warriors (0-2) trailed 10-6 after the first quarter, but scored no points in the second.

That made all the difference, even as Wawasee outscored Angola 10-5 in the fourth. 

Dyer Ball had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets (1-0). 

Wawasee will play Friday at 7:45 p.m. at Manchester.

Triton Falters In Own?Tournament

BOURBON – The Triton girls basketball team lost both of its games at its own tournament Saturday.

Triton lost in the semifinals of the four-team tournament, 35-24 to Sheridan. 

Lexia Hostrawser led the Lady Trojans with nine points, while Alyxa Viers had seven, Chelsea Johnson scored five and Delanie Groves added three.

Triton fell 52-37 to Leo in a consolation game. Jaela Faulkner led the Lady Trojans with 10 points, while Hostrawser had nine, and Alyxa Viers scored six.

Emma Hepler had four points for Triton, while Abbey Viers and Groves chipped in three and Jaelyn?Bules added two. 

Lakeland won 54-40 over Sheridan in the tournament championship game after winning 57-49 over Leo in a semifinal. 

Triton (3-6) will play Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at LaVille. 



Whitko Struggles At Valley Classic

AKRON - The Whitko girls basketball team lost both of its games Saturday at the Tippecanoe Valley Thanksgiving Classic.

Whitko lost in the first round of the four-team tournament 57-27 to Bremen. 

Emalee Duggins led the Lady Wildcats with 11 points, while?Ellie Snepp added eight points and 13 rebounds. 

“We did not play with much enthusiasm or passion,” said Whitko coach?Rick Bragg. “While Bremen is a quality, top-rate team, I was disappointed that we did not put up much of a fight.” 

Whitko improved its focus in the second game, but was edged 50-47 by Goshen. 

Duggins led Whitko with 23 points, while Ellie Snep scored 11 points and added 16 rebounds. 

“I do not believe in moral victories, but without question this was our best performance of the season,” Bragg said. 

Valley went 1-1 on the day. The Lady Vikings won 51-41 over Goshen before losing 52-47 to Bremen in the championship game. 

The loss was an improvement for Valley, which lost by 14 points to the Lady Lions earlier this season. 



Strong?Second?Quarter Boosts Warsaw To Victory

NEW CASTLE – A strong second quarter propelled the Warsaw girls basketball team to a 46-39 win over New Castle Saturday.

The Lady?Tigers (4-4) were deadlocked at five points with New Castle before outscoring the Lady Trojans 21-7 to take a 26-12 halftime lead. Despite being outscored in both quarters in the second half, Warsaw held on for the victory. 

Kaylee Patton led the Lady Tigers with 16 points, while Abby Sanner added 10. 

Cameron Tabor had a game-high 24 points for the Lady?Trojans (3-4).

Warsaw will host Oregon-Davis Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
