Three-Point Barrage Contributes To Lady Wildcat LossSOUTH WHITLEY—Going in with a three-game skid, the Whitko Lady Wildcats basketball knew they had a tough task a week after facing a 4A team in Columbia City. The Huntington North Lady Vikings entered the night after suffering their first loss of the season against Fort Wayne Carroll on Tuesday.

Huntington North made a dozen three-point baskets as they pummeled Whitko 56-11 Friday night at the Whitko Jr./Sr. High School gymnasium.

The Lady ‘Cats went into halftime down 22-6, but the Lady Vikings’ three-point barrage were more than enough to pull away in the second half.

“A positive for us tonight was our defensive effort. It may not look like it based on the score, but I know our girls defended hard for 25 to 30 to 40 seconds sometimes,” said Whitko head girls basketball coach Mike Howard. “They were just able to get us off-balance scrambling around in our zone and eventually got a good look and knocked it down.

Huntington North was led by freshman Taylor Double, who made four three-pointers to lead all scorers with 14. Junior Reece Colclesser made three of her own three-pointers and finished with 11 for the Lady Vikes.

“We don’t have as much depth on our bench with a lot of the new, learning kids,” said Howard. “So I think when we come out two-thirds of the way through the third quarter, we just start to get tired. They knew they were able to get good looks, so they were able to be patient and wait for those.”

For the Lady ‘Cats, sophomore Kylie Fugett led with six points. Freshman Morgan Howard scored four points and sophomore Elizabeth Miller made a free-throw in the loss.

After their Thanksgiving break, Whitko returns to action on Dec. 3 at Fort Wayne Canterbury.
