Editor, Times-Union: Oops! If he’d only stayed with his twin pacifiers. But, he always has to showcase his brilliance; to show the country that he’s by far the sharpest tool in the shed. Only this time, in his typical professorial lecturing style, he went too far and a part of the real Barack Obama crept through. The part that has always hated capitalism, individual innovation and personal wealth.
You didn’t build a business on your own, someone else made it happen. Are you kidding me? Barack Obama just slapped every hardworking business owner in the face. Now the government gets the credit for building a road or some bridge? And that’s why we’re successful; because the government made it happen?
Well, let me tell you something, Jack. We paid taxes to have that road built. Without us and our money, you’re nothing. Left to your own devices, you create nothing.
This country was built on the sweat and sacrifice of individuals with a dream and a dollar. Americans willing to work 16-18 hours a day, unable to sleep because they’ve leveraged everything for the American dream.
Then, there’s your idea of success. That of collective sacrifice where no one succeeds on their own without your bloated government intervention. And every no load in the country has a right to suck from our sweat and tears. We all share, or no one succeeds. That’s not America. That’s straight-up socialism.
You’ve forgotten one important thing. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave. And if you want to peddle an alternative ideology, outsource it ‘cause it’s not going to fly here. Not in the United States of America where we fly the flag, put our hand over our heart, and still believe in the Pledge of Allegiance. We believe in individual pride and you can worship at your alter of shared sacrifice and your tedious, tired line of “fair share.”
