The Ruwm Donates $5,000 To Edgewood’s Caring ClosetEdgewood Middle School received a $5,000 donation for the school’s Caring Closet Wednesday from The Ruwm, 1400 W. Center St., Warsaw.

Edgewood Principal JoElla Hauselman said the Caring Closet was started this school year to provide food, clothing, shoes and hygiene products to students in need. Every day the school is open, the closet is open. Hauselman said sometimes staff will send items to the student’s home or stay open after school if the parent needs it to.

Sometimes parents tell school staff what their child needs and they don’t have what the student needs, but  “we will get socks” for the student, she said.

Hauselman said the Caring Closet runs on donations. People have provided items, but many have donated money, which helps a lot in getting what the closet needs to help students. She estimated about 20% of the middle school students have benefited from the closet so far.

Veronica Helser, associate pastor/children’s pastor at The Ruwm and eighth-grade English/language arts teacher at Edgewood, said when the church was deciding on making donations, they decided on Edgewood to help students get food and clothing.

The church feels it is very important to be active members and supporters of the community, according to provided information. Each year the church finds local organizations to support. Edgewood has been known for their humanitarian efforts, whether it be their annual canned food drive that stocks the shelves of Combined Community Services or its Caring Closet.

Helser, being a teacher at Edgewood, saw the need for the closet. She said she hopes the closet is able to get what they need to help Edgewood’s students.

Hauselman said the best way to donate to the Caring Closet is to make out a check to Edgewood Middle School and in the memo line put Caring Closet.
