MENTONE - Terry K. Spitler, 64, of 4423 20th Road, Tippecanoe, died at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 19, 2010, in his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born March 11, 1945, in Chico, Calif., to Ronald C. and Mary I. Metheny Spitler. On June 10, 1972, in Mentone United Methodist Church, he married Cynthia K. Whetstone, who survives.
He retired from NIPSCO after 33 years of service as a civil engineer. Also in his retirement, he worked at the Warsaw Airport and at Harmony Press. He graduated from Argos High School as valedictorian in 1963. He then attained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1967. He attended Mentone United Methodist Church. He loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren. He was an outdoor person and enjoyed working outside around the farm.
Also surviving are a daughter, Valerie (and spouse David) Schmidt, Walkerton; a son, Brandon (and spouse Rebecca) Spitler, Mentone; a grandson, Alex Schmidt; his mother, Mary Spitler, Argos; two sisters, Bev (and spouse Rick) Sprague, Anderson, and Portia (and spouse Barry) Wampler, Bourbon; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Helen Whetstone; his sister-in-law, Peg (and spouse Jake) Stutzman, Harrisonburg, Va.; and brother-in-law, John Whetstone, Silver Lake. He was preceded in death by an infant son and his father, Ronald C. Spitler.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Doris Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
