Editor, Times-Union: I started reading Richard Keeven’s guest column on the sign ordinance, but stopped midway through the third paragraph.
Twenty-three years on the Board of Zoning Appeals? Good grief. During that time, I’ve helped raise a 23-year-old child through adolescence, high school, college, and the beginning of his career!
Nothing personal, Rick, but I’ll say the same thing to you that I would have said to Sen. Lugar: “Thank you very much for serving ... you’ve done a great job, but it’s time to move on.” From the federal officials in Congress to our local board members and representatives, too many people are spending too much time in their elected or appointed positions.
I am a firm believer in term limits, and I also would like to believe the founders of our country would have written it into the Constitution if they had been able to see into the future. I’m sure they never meant these positions to be careers.
I have no doubt there is no shortage of competent people to represent us at all federal, state and local levels. For my part, I will not vote for anyone who has served more than two terms ... Democrat or Republican. We need fresh ideas and new faces, and that’s coming from an old fogey like me.
