Tea, Mr. Townsend?

Editor, Times-Union:

This is in regards to Mr. Townsend's letter on the "Republican" Tea Parties going on all over the country. I don't know why in the world you think these are Republican tea parties. These are American tea parties. I have every intention to attend our county's party and I voted Independent. What makes you think everyone is fighting more taxes?I am fine with the current tax rate if it were left at this rate. It is the tax rate we are going to be paying in the next 10 years that scares the hell out of me, with the projected impending deficit of $10 trillion. They are saying our interest alone on that "loan" will exceed $800 billion, and that never touches the principle.

I don't know whether you give a damn or not that the Chinese and Japanese already own half this country, but I sure do. If all you ever read is your local newspaper to get all your news, you need to get your head out of the sand and listen to some of the national talk show hosts and learn more facts. (That's another thing our great government is trying to do away with so you can't get all the facts.) Even a third-grader can figure out that you can't borrow your way out of debt.

I am personally sick of being another one of our government's personal charge cards. You know how that works, I presume? You borrow more money than you can pay back and soon your interest rate goes from 6 or 8 percent to a massive 30 or 40. How do you suppose our government is ever going to pay that back? Raise your taxes.

That's the reason for all these tea parties. No one is listening to the American people and this is our way to try to get their attention. Our people put him in there for change, not thinking he was going to triple our national debt in 60 days. Even members of the British Parliament are telling us to "listen and learn from our mistakes, don't go to national health care cause it doesn't work and our people are dying left and right for lack of health care because when a woman or man has cancer, the treatment is too costly for the government so they just don't get it.

Stop jumping "Republicans" for these tea parties. You need to jump every person you run into and see how they respond to you. I think a lot of the responses you are going to get will set you back a few paces, with good reason.
