Syracuse Town Council Hears Report From Day Care Committee

Posted

SYRACUSE – Council Member Larry Martindale reported at Tuesday evening’s town council meeting that the day care study is continuing.

After parents came to a council meeting to express concerns about the lack of day care in the Town of Syracuse, a committee was formed to study the issue.

Martindale is a member of that committee. They discovered that there is still one day care operating in town – Little Lambs Day Care – but the committee is working to get another organization to start a day care in town.

CPR Class

Turkey Creek Fire Chief Mickey Scott announced that there will be a CPR class offered at Station One on May 29 at 4 pm.

Those interested in joining the class should call the fire department.

He also reported that the building improvement project is completed.

Town Mgr. Report

Town Manager Mike Noe reported he hired a new wastewater foreman who will be shadowing the current foreman for awhile. The current foreman will be retiring soon so the new hire will be taking his place. Noe said he just began so he would introduce the new hire at a future meeting.

Noe reported the sewer plant is working well and they hope to achieve the performance guaranteed in July because that’s when the town has its highest usage. He also reported the Indiana Department of Transportation will begin work on Ind. 13 south of the town hall and would be adding two stop lights.

Noe received approval from the council to obtain quotes for painting and inspecting the north and south water towers.

Appropriations

The council passed an additional appropriations ordinance in the amount of $3,000.

Clerk-treasurer Paula Kehr-Wicker explained that INDOT gave the town that amount for the Town of Syracuse sign at Ind. 13 that will have to be removed when they add the roundabout.

Kehr-Wicker said the chamber of commerce actually owned the sign so she had to appropriate the funds in order to be able to pay the chamber.
