Syracuse Man Injured In 1-Car CrashA 25-year-old Syracuse man, who fell asleep at the wheel Friday morning, crashed his vehicle but walked away unhurt.
Austen Oaks, 25, Syracuse, was traveling north on Ind. 13 in the area of 5306 S. Ind. 13 when a call to 911 came in around 10:42 a.m. that a vehicle had left the roadway.
Pierceton Town Marshal Tim Sammons said the 2011 Nissan Rogue went off the right side of the road, missed several trees then hit a concrete culvert head on. Sammons said a witness to the accident told police the vehicle hit the concrete so hard that it lifted the whole car up in the air and put it back down.
Oaks complained of chest and neck pain, but was out of the vehicle when police arrived, Sammons said. Oaks refused Lutheran EMS transportation to a hospital.
Assisting at the scene were Lutheran EMS and Washington Township Fire Department. Estimated damage is between $5,000 to $10,000.
