Syracuse Man Arrested For Trying To Fake Urine Test

A Syracuse man serving his sentence on community corrections was busted for allegedly using fake urine during a drug screen and taken back into custody.

Brian L. Richardson, 31, of 205 W. Washington St., Syracuse, was returned to the custody of the Kosciusko County Sheriff and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday for attempted obstruction of justice, a Level 6 felony; and interfering with a screening test, a Class B misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday, Richardson showed up at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a drug screen with the Kosciusko County Community Corrections office. KCCC Director Barry Andrew took Richardson to the drug screen bathroom to obtain a urine sample, and, according to the affidavit, Richardson was “exhibiting nervous behavior.” Andrew reported he did not hear urine hitting the water in the toilet when Richardson provided him a sample and that when Richardson was finished he had urine on his hand and outside of the sample cup.

According to court documents, the urine did not register on the temperature line, indicating the urine had not recently come from a human body. Andrew then noticed Richardson was standing in an odd way and observed an abnormal bulge coming from his groin area. Andrew asked Richardson to drop his pants, which he did, and a clear bottle containing a liquid that appeared to be urine fell out of Richardson’s underwear, spilling its contents on the floor and on Richardson.

Richardson had been accepted to KCCC in June to serve a one-year sentence for a Level 6 possession of syringe conviction.
