A Syracuse man is facing several charges after police responded to a home where the man had allegedly beaten a woman.

Josiah James Gall, 25, of 9592 N. CR 300E, Syracuse, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:17 p.m. Jan. 28 and faces charges of strangulation and criminal confinement, both Level 6 felonies, and a Class A misdemeanor domestic battery charge.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday in Kosciusko Superior Court II, on Jan. 28 Warsaw police responded to a home in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, police spoke with a woman “who was visibly upset, crying, on the verge of hyperventilating,” court papers state. The woman told police that she and Gall were going to buy an outfit for their child at a department store when they got into an argument in their vehicle in the parking lot. The woman said Gall slapped her in the face, grabbed her and would not let her exit the truck, then drove home, threw her to the ground inside their apartment, pinned her down and choked her. According to court documents, the altercation only ended once police arrived.

The woman also said that Gall placed one hand around her throat and one hand over her mouth so she could not be heard when she attempted to scream and that she thought Gall was going to choke her to death, according to the probable cause affidavit.

When police spoke with Gall, according to court papers, he admitted he slapped the woman and wouldn’t let her exit the truck at the department store, and admitted that he threw her down on the couch, pinned her down and put his hand over her mouth, but said that he doesn’t recall if he put his other hand around her neck or not.

His bond was set at $5,250.
