The second person in a Pierceton drug raid last year was sentenced to probation Thursday.
Troy D. Howard, 52, of 3032 U.S. 30, Warsaw, appeared Thursday in front of Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Mike Reed and was sentenced to 1-1/2 years in the Kosciusko County Jail for a Level 6 felony maintaining a common nuisance conviction. All of the sentence was suspended to formal probation.
Howard originally was charged with dealing methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony; and the charge of which he was convicted Thursday. Those first two charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement struck with prosecutors.
Kosciusko County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Matt Buehler said Howard’s co-defendant, Maryjean E. Howard, 51, of Elkhart, took the blame for the drugs and was sentenced to 13 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections on June 29 by Reed, with six of those years suspended.
According to affidavit in the case, on Aug. 15 officers with NET 43 made a controlled purchase for 14 grams of methamphetamine from Douglas. A search warrant executed at 8280 E. U.S. 30, lot 52, Pierceton, resulted in both arrests.
