Supporters Of Jim Smith For Sheriff Stand By Him For PhotoKosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy Jim Smith said he is humbled by the support he has received during his campaign for sheriff.

In May 2021, when he announced that he would seek the Republican nomination for sheriff, some people were skeptical. Some said he would not get any support, that he wouldn’t be able to raise the money to compete. They wondered why he would not wait until next time to run, according to a provided news release.

Smith said he has already proven several of those assumptions were wrong, according to the release. He has worked hard, his team has worked hard and his supporters have worked hard. Smith said he is running now because he knows he can make some positive changes and can make a difference right now.

That will start with entering into a contract with the county that is more in line with the average Indiana sheriff’s salary.

What if the County Council came in next month and voted themselves a $35,000 raise? It would be legal, but it would not go over well, stated the release. Smith thinks it is important to note that all of his campaign donations are from Kosciusko County. The majority of those donations are from the working class, the hard-working taxpayers from the county.

As sheriff, Smith said he will be the sheriff of the hard-working people of Kosciusko County and promises to seek solutions to problems rather than placing blame elsewhere. He pledges to be fiscally conservative with his approach to budgeting, will work to minimize the damages to the Kosciusko County Jail and implement strategies to reduce illegal narcotics entering into the jail. Smith said it is his vision is to implement a drug detection K-9 unit for use in the correctional environment, and he will be accessible to the citizens of Kosciusko County, stated the release.
