SYRACUSE - Stacy E. Haines, 80, of Leesburg, died April 16, 2010, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Huntington, to Stacy E. Sr. and Mearl Shoemaker Haines. On June 19, 1956, he married Colleen Diffendorfer, who survives.
He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, serving in 1949, and again from 1950-52. He worked for Prudential Insurance for 16 years. During his time with Prudential he served as a district manager as well as a staff manager and training consultant in Chicago, Fort Wayne and Warsaw. In October 1972, he opened Stacy's Restaurant, Leesburg, a popular restaurant serving the Warsaw and surrounding lake areas, now in its 38th year of operation. He was a member of North Webster United Methodist Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars; American Legion; and Elks Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and duck hunter. He also loved the Chicago Cubs.
Also surviving are two sons, Todd (and spouse Joyce) Haines, Fort Wayne, and Tyler Haines, Leesburg; five grandchildren, Reed and Kathleen Haines, both of Fort Wayne, and Ashley Haines-Spangle and Hunter and Madison Haines, all of Leesburg; and two sisters, Miriam Voloch, Spartansburg, S.C., and Carol Lee Meyers, Malibu, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lillian Harris and Jean Kaylor.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, with Pastor David Smitley officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
