SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting, the South Whitley Town Council approved a quote from EMC Insurance Group Inc. for the town's insurance, effective Jan. 1 with an $80,124 premium.
The insurance does not cover the building at 110 E. Front St., which the council will pursue insuring separately after structural improvements have been made.
Council approved an ordinance for appropriation distributions allowing Clerk-Treasurer Alyssa Knepple to recalculate percentages of how much comes out of each fund, largely to remove stress on the town's electric fund.
Council tabled the decisions on staff bonuses and the police department's purchase of a Kawasaki Mule side-by-side until the Dec. 9 meeting.
In other business, the council:
• Heard a DLZ update regarding the street work; contractors' final walkthroughs will be in the next week or two, pending weather.
• Heard the clerk's office would be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
• Heard Town Marshal Chad Schipper will be hiring a new part-time officer.
• Approved five sewer adjustments for individual residents at Star-Lite Estates totaling $1,788.23.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9.
