SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting, the South Whitley Town Council voted to place an offer on the bank building and adjacent lot at 101 E. Columbia St.
The town conducted two appraisals on both the building and the lot, with an average appraisal of $162,000 and $18,950, respectively. Since the town cannot legally offer any higher than the average of the appraisals, council voted to offer $100,000 for both the building and the lot.
In other business, council approved five port-a-potties for the townwide garage sale on April 24-25 and approved utility adjustments for five households totaling $1,310.21.
In councilman topics, Council President Brock Waterson discussed a potential construction on the old Dollar General lot. Waterson said he found out about the plans for the property when it was rezoned at a recent Whitley County BZA meeting.
Waterson has discussed the project, an apartment duplex, with Nathan Bilger, executive director of Planning and Building in Whitley County, and said he wanted the council to be aware of it.
Council approved claims totaling $248,186.36.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. April 14, starting with a public hearing regarding the electric utility rates ahead of the regular meeting.
