Posted

SOUTH WHITLEY – At Tuesday night's meeting, the South Whitley Town Council discussed a potential redevelopment commission-funded tree program to replace some of the trees on Wayne Street.
Council President Brock Waterson said the initial quote for 10 red sunset maples, planting included, with Fort Wayne Trees was $6,800.
Karen Jordan, of the redevelopment commission, said if purchased, the trees could be spread out along Wayne Street toward the school.
The town would approach residents with the offer to have a tree planted, and the trees would be opt-in, said Waterson.
Council voted to set trick-or-treat hours for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
Council heard a DLZ update from Dave Sheets on the Community Crossings project; all concrete should be poured on Main Street next week.
Council voted to authorize Waterson to sign Community Crossings grant documents outside of a regular meeting.
In other business, Council:
• Heard that Tony Starkey countered the town's purchase agreement of $130,000 total for the bank building and adjacent lot with $132,000 for the building and $18,000 for the lot. Council is keeping the town's offer at $130,000.
• Approved Aug. 25 claims totaling $548,446.79.
• Approved 2027 insurance rates for health, dental and vision.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8.
