GREENCASTLE – Sonja Jean Whitehead Everts, dearly loved wife and mother, went to be with the Lord peacefully in her residence Feb. 22, 2013.
She was born May 2, 1938, in Elkhart, to George Grover and Evelyn Eger Whitehead. On Aug. 14, 1960, she married David L. Everts, who survives.
She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1956, received a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University and a master’s degree in education from Saint Francis College. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and taught at Muncie and North Webster Elementary Schools for several years.
Along with being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed scrapbooking, decorating and playing the piano. She loved supporting her grandchildren in their sporting and school activities and was their biggest fan. She will be very much missed until her family sees her again one day in Heaven.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jama (and spouse Stacy) Hostetler and Krista (and spouse Ross) Dahlstrom, all of Coatesville; a son, Chad (and spouse Carley) Everts, Indianapolis; nine grandchildren: Mischon Dahlstrom, Heidi (and spouse Ryan) Meyer, Brian Shear, Trent (and spouse Whitney) Dahlstrom, Brayden (and spouse Fran) Dahlstrom, Griffen Dahlstrom, Samuel Everts, Lilli Everts and Henry Evert; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shelbie (and spouse Carl) Hemphill, Zephyrhills, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sharon Whitehead; and a brother, Randall Whitehead.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington St., Greencastle. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Calling is from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
