A small portion of the roof of the Kosciusko County Justice Building collapsed early Friday afternoon.
First responders were called out around 12:35 p.m. to the building at 121 N. Lake St. Roofing outside near the prosecutor’s office along Lake Street fell onto the sidewalk.
Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Fire Marshal Jeremy Williams said nothing collapsed inside the building and no one was injured. Everyone was evacuated from the justice building.
“There was one lady right inside the doorway. She got scared,” said Williams. He said she was checked out by medics, but not taken to the hospital.
Lake Street is remaining closed between Center and Main streets until further notice, said Williams.
“They’re bringing in a structural engineer to see why it collapsed,” he added.
Everyone was evacuated from the justice building.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chris McKeand said the justice building is going to remain closed until at least Tuesday.
“If anybody has a court hearing, the courts will be in contact with them, and they will reschedule those court hearings,” said McKeand.
Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce’s Scott Wiley said Slate Auto’s block party was going to proceed as planned from 5-7 p.m. Friday as the only portion being used for the party is Center Street between Lake and Buffalo streets anyway.
Responding to the collapse scene were the KCSO, WWFT, Warsaw Police Department, Lutheran EMS, Indiana State Police and Warsaw Street Department.
