SILVER LAKE - At Wednesday night's Silver Lake Town Council meeting, in response to concerns brought to council by local residents regarding the state of some homes in town and loose animals, council reported on progress as they are updating and reviewing ordinances.
One handwritten ordinance, dating back to 1883, involving the firing of weapons within town limits, was still on the books, Council President Hugh Murfin said.
Council will bring updated ordinances to meetings as they are completed and reviewed by town attorney Austin Rovenstine.
During a public hearing, Shannon McLeod, grantwriter with Priority Project Resources, asked for feedback before submitting an application for a $750,000 Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) grant. This is another fund source for the Silver Lake Community Center project.
Council voted to authorize McLeod to submit the application.
In other business, Council also:
• Approved a tree removal quote for $5,900 for the utilities department.
• Approved appropriations transfers to cover costs for the new camera system in the local parks.
• Approved a sidewalks quote for $19,927 for the utilities department.
• Approved a leak letter with a water adjustment of $181.22 and a sewer adjustment of $103.34.
There was a claims docket of $135,115.84.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. July 9.
