Silver Lake Holds Spring Cleanup April 25

SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council encouraged the public to make use of spring cleanup day on April 25.
With new ordinances now in effect for trash and junk vehicles in town, Council President Hugh Murfin said he and Town Marshal Jason McGlennen have been notifying residents so they can take advantage of spring cleanup to clean their properties before receiving ordinance violations.
At the start of the meeting, Tyler Coffel, of Baker Tilly, presented yearly cash flow reports for the town's water and sewer utilities. Sewer is "in very good shape," said Coffel, with the utility having spent $26,000 less than anticipated last year.
Similarly, the water utility is doing well as it is operating at $13,000 under budget and has $24,000 above required reserves. The town is set to pay off outstanding bonds for the water utility in 2029, which will free up $72,000 per year.
Council held a hearing for the property at 208 E. Main St. regarding a porch problem; the owners were not present and council voted to send a letter requesting an update at the May regular meeting.
Council passed an amendment to the 2026 salary ordinance to update a wage for Chris Craft, who passed his utility certification test.
Fire Chief John Conley reported seven runs, including a fire earlier in the day that destroyed a semi trailer carrying 207,000 eggs.
Council approved a claims docket of $138,844.37.
Council will hold a bid opening for the community center project at 5 p.m. April 28. The next regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 13.
