SILVER LAKE - On Wednesday night, the Silver Lake Town Council approved an ordinance setting a 13-ton weight limit on some local roads.
This ordinance followed Town Marshal Jason McGlennen’s suggestion at January’s meeting to take action against the semis and other large trucks that use the side streets to avoid Ind. 15 detours.
Emergency vehicles are exempt from the weight limit.
Prior to the regular meeting, a public hearing was held regarding the annexation of 3098 Dixie Drive. The annexation ordinance was approved on first reading, with a second reading set for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 23. A final reading and vote will occur at the regular meeting in March.
In old business, the Council discussed a petition from Bowman’s Landing to amend an existing ordinance, relating to an earlier request from a resident to convert a travel trailer to a permanent dwelling at the seasonal park.
The Council remains in favor of park models but not campers, agreeing unanimously that they cannot change an ordinance for one person.
In new business, the Council approved a petition to vacate 909 Edgewater St. and a request from Utilities Superintendent Joey McNeal to purchase solar panels for the water plant using American Rescue Plan Act funding.
The Council also approved purchases for a $4,750 snow push box for the town’s backhoe and a $10,900 vac pump for the lake’s pump house. The current vac pump is from 1990 and needs to be replaced.
In his report, Fire Chief John Conley reported 12 runs last month: five medical assists, three mutual aid assists, one gas leak, one false alarm and two fires.
