Sidney Council Identifies Ordinances To Review For Possible Revision

Posted

SIDNEY - Sidney Town Council decided Monday to review ordinances regarding junk cars and RVs, campers and mobile homes in town limits.
Over the last several months, there have been complaints from residents with the town council, in particular regarding how the council has been handling reports of junk cars and displeasure with RVs in town.
In response, during the December 2025 meeting, Councilwoman Sharon Rancourt suggested reviewing the contents of the current ordinances at the January meeting. However, the January meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather.
During Monday’s council meeting, Rancourt identified junk cars and campers as the topics receiving the most complaints from people. The council decided that they will review their own existing ordinances and compare those to the corresponding ordinances in Pierceton and Silver Lake.
Butch Lent voiced his frustration, saying, “Another camper moved into town. There’s four people living in it and two dogs. I don’t think they’re hooked up to the sewer or anything … It’s starting to look like a trailer park over there.”
Gavin Parrett, council president, said he would like to review ordinances related to the use of golf carts in town limits.
Samuel Politano responded, “I think one advantage to having golf carts around town is it does deter suspicious activity. The more traffic there is and the more people there are outside, the less likely people are going to cause problems.”
The council hopes to discuss possible revisions to their current ordinances at the March town council meeting.
In other business:
• There will be an informational meeting regarding the Sidney strategic plan, including the proposed park, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. Free food will be available.
The council voted unanimously to approve a study to be done in preparation for the park, assuming funding is received and the town attorney approves the contract.
• Pierceton Town Marshal Phillip Hawks agreed to renew the agreement between Sidney and the Pierceton Police Department.
• Rick Bradley requested the town look into the potholes in the alleyway near his house.
The next Sidney Town Council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 9.
