Shirley ‘Shirl’ ConklinBOURBON – Shirley “Shirl” Hackworth Conklin, age 59, of Bourbon, passed away on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, in the care of her family after a long battle with cancer.

Shirl was born the daughter of Alex and Ruth Hale Hackworth on June 3, 1963, in Martin, Ky. She had been a resident of the area the past 34 years after moving here from Kentucky. Shirl worked at Warsaw Moose Lodge, Etna Green Café, Journey’s End Bar and Grill and local restaurants. She loved her customers for decades until her illness.

She married James “Jimmer” Conklin on May 20, 2000, and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2019. Shirl loved to spend time with her family, all her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and her great-greats. She also enjoyed rock ‘n’ roll, mostly AC/DC, Harley Davidson motorcycle bike riding, dancing and having fun with family and friends. Shirl will be remembered for her long chats, great advice and always being there for anyone that needed her. She was the one everyone went to for everything because she wore her heart on her sleeve and would drop everything to help whomever, whenever. She had a spunky, witty, spicy, fun-loving personality and was a firecracker to be around. She will be dearly missed.

Shirl is survived by her sister, Gearldene (Henry) Webb, of Bonanza, Ky.; her brothers: Jack (Jackie) Hackworth, of Tippecanoe; and Bob Hackworth, of Martin, Ky. Along with Shirl and Jimmer’s shared family, her beautiful bonus children and grandchildren: James and Karin Conklin; Elaina, Benton and Kaelyn Conklin; Jade and Tim Schramm.

Shirl is preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Ruth Hackworth; her husband, Jimmer; her sisters: Marlene Hall, Marilyn Gillman; her brothers: Bill Hackworth and Jim Hackworth.

Shirl, upon death, requested cremation with no funeral; however, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Izaac Walton’s Clubhouse, 7184 16th Road, Argos.
