Shawnee Lynn Earl Hughes, 50, Mentone, died at 3:30 p.m. March 14, 2017, at her residence. She had been in declining health for several years. On Jan. 24, 1967, in Warsaw, she was born to Albert and Jennie Lee Earl. She had lived all of her life in the Atwood and Mentone communities. On June 27, 1987, in Warsaw, she married Mark A. Hughes. They shared nearly 30 years with each other. She was a graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School with the class of 1985. She then attended IUPUI in Indianapolis. In December 1989 she received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Indiana University. She was a member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church. She had worked at Lutheran Health Network KCH since 1990, starting as a floor nurse and ending as a pre-op nurse. On Feb. 2, 2017, because of health issues, she had to give up her job she had devoted her life to. She is survived by her husband, Mark Hughes, Mentone; sons, Derek Alan Hughes, Winona Lake, and Patrick Lee Hughes, Mentone; mother, Jennie Earl, Atwood; sisters, Angela Himes (husband AJ), Claypool, and Amie Rogers, Warsaw; and a brother, Alan Earl (wife Luella), Argos. She was preceded by her grandparents and father, Albert Earl. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Warsaw Wesleyan Church, 2402 W. Old Road 30. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with Rev. Jarod Osborne officiating.
