Semi-Tractor Hits U.S. 30 BakeryPolice responded to a semi crash Tuesday after the driver had a medical emergency and crossed into oncoming traffic on U.S. 30.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Chris Francis said police were called at 12:01 p.m. Tuesday to 2257 E. U.S. 30 in Wayne Township, which is the location of Perfection Bakeries.

According to investigating deputies, Jeremy W. Blaze, 44, of North Liberty, was driving a 2007 Kenworth semi tractor, hauling an empty flatbed trailer, westbound on U.S. 30.

Blaze reportedly suffered a medical condition, crossed the median and eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 before leaving the south side of the road and stricking the bakery.

Hazard materials personnel were called to the scene for a diesel fuel leak, and Blaze was taken by ambulance to a Warsaw hospital for evaluation, Francis said.

Fire crews assisted with structure stabilization, and the semi carrier is arranging mitigation with property owners.

Responding agencies included KCSO, Pierceton and Warsaw police departments, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and Lutheran EMS.
