Scout Troop 715 Finds ‘Jeff The Junkie’ Guilty In CourtroomScout Troop 715 recently worked on the Law Merit Badge and Kosciusko County Prosecutor Dan Hampton volunteered to assist Scoutmaster Dick McCleary with a mock trial.
Thirteen Scouts sat in the jury box, in an actual courtroom. Andrew Frush played Andrew “The Addict,” and Jeffrey Naundorf-Miller played “The Junkie.”
Kosciusko County Superior Court IV Judge Chris Kehler was the judge. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Brad Voelz was the prosecutor, attorney Tony Garza served as the public defender, Winona Lake Police Officer David Swain played himself and Winona Town Marshal Joe Hawn was in charge of the prisoner.
All of the principle adults told the Scouts about themselves and explained what their duties were in the Courtroom.
The jury returned a verdict of guilty for selling and smoking marijuana in a Warsaw Community High School restroom.
The story was: A fellow student, Andrew “The Addict” (who was trying to change his lifestyle), reported to Swain in the hallway of his run in with Jeff “the Junkie.” Swain went into the restroom and observed Jeff “The Junkie” smoking and in possession of a bag of a controlled substance.
The Junkie was found guilty in the courtroom and sentenced to 1-1/2 years in the Warsaw High Correctional Facilities under the watchful eyes of the members of the school orchestra (of which he is a member).
