Whitko Trounced By Columbia City

COLUMBIA CITY – The?Whitko girls basketball team’s woes persisted with a 65-22 loss Friday at Columbia City.

“We continue to struggle offensively,” said?Whitko coach Rick Bragg. “We have to learn to make adjustments and take what the defense is giving us. Until we figure this part of the game out, we are going to take our lumps.”

The game was 6-5 in the first quarter before the Lady Eagles (1-2) went on a 13-0 run to lead 19-5 heading into the second.

They held a 39-14 halftime advantage, and allowed?Whitko just eight points in the second half.

Emalee Duggins led the Lady Wildcats (0-3) with 15 points, while Kayla Schipper had three points, Sarah Hewitt scored two points and Ellie Snep and Lilly Owsley scored one point each.

“Despite the score, our defense was not that bad,” Bragg said. “Because we continue to turn the ball over too much, our opponents continue to score uncontested baskets after steals.”

Whitko will host Churubusco tonight at 7 p.m.

“We need a good crowd there to support the team,” Bragg said. “The kids continue to work hard as they learn and grow as a team.”
