School Flag

Editor, Times-Union:
All summer long now I’ve driven north into Warsaw on Ind. 15 past the high school and all summer long I’ve been disgusted when I look at the tattered United States flag flying in front of Warsaw Community High School.

This weekend we had some rough weather and I understand there’s been a lot of cleaning up going on. However, in the last two days I’ve driven past the high school I’ve noticed the United States flag is now barely clinging to the flag pole in front of the school.

What bothers me even more is today I saw a person out working on the football field. I’m glad to see there isn’t one school administrator not lazy enough to walk outside and haul that flag down and replace it but one can find time to go turn the sprinklers on at the football field. I’m glad to see Warsaw Community Schools has the funds to water and service their mediocre football team’s field but not enough money or time to replace their worn and torn United States flag a few days before the 4th of July. Our nation’s birthday, in case you’ve forgotten.

This may seem petty to some but as a veteran I find it offensive that nobody driving down Tiger Lane in the morning to work has noticed this. If Warsaw Community Schools doesn’t have the time or money to replace a single United States flag my name is at the bottom of this article. I’ll gladly do it considering I understand what that flag stands for.
