PIERCETON – Salt + Light Coffee Co., 303 N. First St., Pierceton, celebrated opening its location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce.
Co-owner Olivia Targgart said Salt + Light opened July 2.
It is a coffee and doughnut shop “so we offer crafted coffee drinks and teas and then we partner with a company out of Tennessee and Fort Wayne called Tiny Little Doughnuts and serve their doughnuts here as well,” Targgart said. “Our most popular doughnut items are our classic cinnamon sugar doughnuts and our timeless glazed doughnuts. They’re all the same doughnuts, just with different toppings. We offer them in a half dozen and a generous full dozen. Our coffee, we offer a variety of lattes, drip coffee, Americanos and we have three signatures that we include as well - the Salt + Light, which a salted caramel white moca; the Pierceton, which is a brown sugar cinnamon latte; and the Honey Bear, which is honey cinnamon.”
She also said Salt + Light is also serving Blue Lion Coffee, which originated in Pierceton.
Co-owner Will Kmieciak said the idea of starting a coffee shop came to them one day. It was just a pipe dream at first and it progressed. They then got the building and the equipment and Kmieciak said it just became a reality after that. Targgart said Kmieciak really wanted to own a business and Targgart really loves coffee and it came together.
“We’re really excited to be in this small town. We love being here with the other businesses that are here. Our name comes from the Bible verse Matthew 5:13-14, which says you are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world and we’d really love to be a light in Pierceton, serve the community. We’re just excited to be here,” Targgart said.
She said Salt + Light wants to be bright spot for people to gather and to connect with each other.
Kmieciak said it’s been very encouraging to see the feedback from all over the place so far. It’s really cool to see all the support as well, he said.
