CHURUBUSCO - Sally Gilbert Gardner, 75, of Winona Lake, and formerly of Churubusco, died at 4:05 p.m. March 6, 2011, in Grace Village Assisted Living, Winona Lake, where she was a resident for the past 19 years.
She was born Aug. 10, 1935, in Churubusco, to Jasper L. and Helen Rowland Gilbert. She married Leo Gardner, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Churubusco High School. As an adult she lived in Union City, Mich., and Hallandale, Fla., for 20 years before moving to the Winona Lake facility in 1992. While living in Michigan, she was a school bus driver and later was a waitress.
Surviving are three children: Charles J. (and spouse Susan) Brown, Claypool; James L. (and spouse Sandra) Brown, Jones, Mich.; and Charlene L. Samson, Lehigh Acres, Fla; two brothers, Gordon (and spouse Eva) Gilbert and Rowland (and spouse Elaine) Gilbert, all of Churubusco; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
