SYRACUSE – Ruth Cavender, 96, Cromwell, passed away July 22, 2015, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. She was born May 18, 1919, in Leiters Ford, to John and Pearl Huffman Swartzell. On June 9, 1940, she married Leonard Cavender Sr., who preceded her in death in 2009. She retired from Big Boy Commissary, Broadview, Ill. She moved to the Syracuse area in 1975, coming from Illinois. Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (and spouse Edward) Kott, Cromwell, and Janet (and spouse Craig) Graebec, Mena, Ark.; three sons, Leonard (and spouse Mary) Cavender Jr., Chicago; James Cavender, Syracuse; and Jeannette (and spouse Michael) Cavender, Canyon Country, Calif; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial will follow at the Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
