Roger C. Sloan Sr., 82, Warsaw, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Nov. 14, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 18, 1932, in Mouthcard, Pike County, Ky., to Emzy and Clementine Rooney Sloan. On March 1, 1954, in Grundy, Va., he married Eunice Blankenship, who survives in Warsaw.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954, then he became a coal miner, retiring in 1970. He was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Warsaw. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, and was loved by all. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anybody in need.
Also surviving are his son, Roger Jr. (and spouse Lana) Sloan, Warsaw; his daughter, Sue Tillman, Warsaw; a sister, Mildred Belcher, Conway, Va.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor David Cripe officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
