Robert "Bob" Rex Harpster, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away Dec. 11, 2010.
He was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Ashland, Ohio, to John and Helen Harpster. He married Jean Ann Webster, who survives.
He returned to Ashland every deer hunting season to join his brothers, nephews and friends at deer camp.
He was a proud alumnus of The Ohio State University. He was an active member of Alpha Gamma Rho and Future Farmers of America. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a born salesman and loved farming. He combined his career ambitions and retired in 1991 from a long and distinguished sales career with Ford New Holland, Warsaw.
Following his retirement, he and his wife, Jean Ann, moved to Sebring, Fla., where he continued to be a competitive bridge player and spent many a day on the Sun'n Lakes Golf courses.
Due to declining health, he and his wife of 53 years, moved to Brookdale Senior Living to be near their surviving son, Steve (and spouse Babette) Harpster; a grandson, Jack Harpster; a sister, Jean Endsley; a longtime sister-in-law, Beulah Harpster; and brothers, Donald Carlton "Pug" and Russell Harpster. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Lynn Harpster Smith; a sister, Marge Galloway; and brother, Gerald "Mose" Harpster.
A private service will be held at a later date at his childhood church.
Shirley Brothers Mortuaries and Cremator, Washington Memorial Chapel, Indianapolis, is in charge of arrangements.
