WINONA LAKE - Right to Life of North Central Indiana will host a Pastors’ Training Luncheon on March 31 at Westminster Hall on the campus of Grace College and Theological Seminary from 12 to 1:30 p.m. (lunch available beginning at 11:30 a.m.).
The training will feature internationally recognized expert on assisted-suicide and euthanasia, Wesley J. Smith.
This is a free event, but registration is required.
Smith, Chair and Senior Fellow at Discovery Institute’s Center on Human Exceptionalism, is often called upon by members of the legislative and executive branches of government to advise on issues within his fields of expertise, according to a news release from Right to Life. He has testified as an expert witness before federal and state legislative committees and has counseled government leaders internationally on matters of mutual concern.
Smith is a lecturer and public speaker, appearing frequently at political, university, medical, legal, disability rights, bioethics, religious, industry and community gatherings across the United States, Europe, Mexico, Canada, South Africa, Australia and at the United Nations.
Twelve states and Washington, D.C., have laws making assisted suicide legal, with another 12 states considering making it legal. This issue will potentially be a topic that pastors will need to address in the near future, the release states.
Smith will help pastors prepare for coming issues, such as having a person look to their pastor for direction when a relative asks them to attend their assisted suicide in another state where it is legal. Or, a person in their congregation wants assisted suicide.
This event is for any pastors and spouses.
