Richard “Rich” Wroughton, of Warsaw, passed away at 11:51 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne at the age of 64.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1955, in Warsaw, to Gertrude Elaine Alvey Trudy Wroughton and Charles Richard Wroughton. He was married on Aug. 22, 1977, to Cynthia “Cindy” Jane Stewart. They shared 43 years of marriage and raised five children before he passed away.
Rich graduated in 1974 from Crete-Monee High School in Crete, Ill., earned his bachelor’s degree from Grace College in Winona Lake in 1978 and attended seminary at Grace College, graduating in 1979. He spent many years working as a substitute teacher in Warsaw and most recently he was a familiar part-time face at Walmart in Warsaw. He enjoyed worshiping with his church family at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, where he was the third-grade Sunday school teacher. Rich was always involved in one activity or another, he loved playing the guitar, reading, acting in plays and enjoyed going to the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts in Warsaw. He always made time for his children, and most of all, he loved church and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rich was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cindy J. Wroughton, Warsaw; five children: Laura Wroughton, and Jenny Wroughton, of Warsaw; Ryan (Emma) Wroughton, Keokuk, Iowa; Rachel Brown, Warsaw; and Carrie Castillo, Fort Wayne. He also leaves behind his two grandchildren: Natalie and Zachary Brown; two brothers: Frank (Sandy) Wroughton, Crete, Ill.; and Jon (Julie) Wroughton, Schererville; and sister, Jane (Kevin) Pepin, Waukesha, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Howell.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
Rich’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
