MENTONE – Richard Gene Stavedahl, 82, Akron, and formerly of Mentone, passed away at 6 p.m. Sept. 2, 2015, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. He was born Sept. 29, 1932, in South Bend, to Charles A. and Eva Mae Blew Stavedahl. On July 27, 1951, in Argos, he married Betty Nicodemus, who preceded him in death April 21, 2004. On July 1, 2005, he married Francis Childs, who survives in Akron. He was a semi-truck driver for many years. He drove for Nelson Trucking of Burket and Peabody ABC. He was a 1951 graduate of Talma High School. He was a member of the Good Sam Club. He and his wife wintered in Ocala, Fla., for many years with their fifth wheel travel trailer. Also surviving are, three daughters: Joyce (and spouse Gary) Beverly, Claypool; Stacy (and spouse Robert) Andrews, Mentone; Johnna (and spouse Mark) Kneller, Akron; four sons: Rickey (and spouse Jean) Stavedahl, Mentone; Terry (and spouse Sandra) Stavedahl, Charles (and spouse Deirdre) Stavedahl and Roger (and spouse Alice) Stavedahl, all of Warsaw; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry (and spouse Becky) Stavedahl, Mentone, and Ted (and spouse Becky) Stavedahl, Redding, Calif.; and a sister, Alice (and spouse John) Vining, Glen Ellyn, Ill. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy (and spouse Daryl) Wright; two grandchildren, Donna and Douglas; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Curtis Stavedahl officiating. Burial is in Mentone Cemetery at a later date.
