Richard ‘Dick’ P. KlopensteinRichard “Dick” P. Klopenstein, also fondly known as “Kloppy,” of Greenville, N.C., formerly of Leesburg, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on June 22, 1930, in Kosciusko County to Mildred Stookey Klopenstein and Wilbur O. Klopenstein. Dick was married in Leesburg to Peggy J. Kammerer. They raised two daughters and enjoyed being grandparents and great-grandparents. They shared 65 years of marriage before he passed away. Dick graduated from Leesburg High School and loved playing basketball for the Blazers.

After graduation, Dick entered the Army and fought in the Korean War.

Dick was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church and a former member of Leesburg Lion’s Club, Leesburg Fire Department, Leesburg Masonic Lodge and the Leesburg Town Board. He was also a former Leesburg School bus driver. Dick worked for 30 years as a Warsaw rural mail carrier and farmed his entire life until he retired at age 84. After retiring and moving to North Carolina, Dick developed a love for salt water fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy J.; two daughters: Tamara Klopenstein and Tracie (Bill) McGee; one grandson, Tyler (Mary) Charlton; and two great-grandsons: Channing and Logan Charlton.

He is preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and his parents.

Dick will be cremated and a memorial service will be arranged at a later date in Leesburg.
