Reverend Alva "Al" Dennis Buhler ,75, of 602 N. Lindberg Drive, Warsaw went to be with his Lord at 3 p.m. April 30, 2009 at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis .
He was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Anna Dyck and George G. Buhler, who are both deceased. On June 23, 1956, in Lancaster, Pa., he married Norma Joan Weaver, who survives.
He was a Chaplain's Assistant for the U.S. Army at Indiantown Gap, Pa. from 1957-1959.
He was born in Lancaster, Pa. He moved with his family in 1937 to Saskatchewan, Canada. Later moving to Kelowna, British Columbia in 1947. He graduated in 1951 from Kelowna High School. Then he continued his education at Briercrest Bible Institute, Caronport, Saskatchewan, Lancaster Bible College, Pa., Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa. He received his B.A. from Grace College, Winona Lake. He attended Grace Theological Seminary, Winona Lake in the Masters of Divinity Program. He received his Masters of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He did post graduate studies at Grace Theological Seminary, where he completed residency for a Masters of Theology degree.
He was the Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Jamestown, N.D. in 1957. From 1964-1966 he was the Field Representative under CEF of Eastern Pennsylvania for Philadelphia County, Pa. From 1966-1998 he was Missionary Executive Director of Lakeland Child Evangelism Ministries. From 1998 until his death he was the Media Director and Director-Emeritus of Lakeland Child Evangelism Ministries. He was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 47 years and a member of Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Alan (and spouse Sharla) Buhler, Queretaro, Mexico; two daughters, Beth Ann (and spouse Phillip) Crompton, Perkasie, Pa. and Kristin (and spouse Troy) Seyfert, Lansing, Mich.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Melba (and spouse Vaughan) Durston, Regina, Saskatchewan and Sharon (and spouse Dennis) Kirsch, Pambrun, Saskatchewan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Doris Hiebert and Ruth Greiner
There will be a private family graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasent View Bible Church, 2782 W. CR 200N, Warsaw with Pastor Ralph Porter officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
