PIERCETON - Rene Frank Baker, 83, South Whitley, died at 6 a.m. Feb. 26, 2008, in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester.
He was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Pierceton, to John M. and Gertrude Tomlinson Baker. On Feb. 24, 1951, he married Mary Cahterine Craig, who survives.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He was a self-employed farmer and motor route driver for the Times-Union. He also drove a school bus for Pierceton School. He was a member of the Eel River Community Church, Pierceton. He was an old car enthusiast as well as an avid farmer.
Also surviving are a son, Brian Laine Baker, Warsaw; a daughter, Linda Rager, South Whitley; five grandchildren, Ben (and spouse Tracie) Wise, Jacob (Shelia) Wise, Brittany Rager, Erika Rager and Jenna Rager; three great-grandchildren, Cale Wise, Samuel Wise and Vivian Wise; and two nephews, Russell (and spouse Ana) Vancuren and Mark Baker, both of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Dean Baker; and an uncle, Dick Baker.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Home, Pierceton, with Pastor Paul Borg officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday.
