Editor, Times-Union: On first reading, your comments about the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in the Saturday paper seemed reasonable. However, I wondered why some well-read people were so up in arms about this legislation. If it was so similar to other legislation, I would expect very little response. It did not take too long to find some answers. Instead of some long-winded letter, I offer the following for you to read. The first link is to a very detailed but well-written blog and points out why the Indiana law is different from apparently similar laws in other states. The second is essentially an admission by a well-known conservative group that their analysis essentially is what the foes of the law have been saying. Matt Anderson – a civil trial lawyer from South Bend – wrote a rather lengthy and detailed analysis of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. It is worth reading. https://inadvancesheet.wordpress.com/2015/03/27/the-indiana-religious-freedom-restoration-act-an-analysis-of-its-controversy/ To read what the organization Advance America had to say about the legislation indicates quite bluntly what this group believes the legislation will do. (Advance America states it is the state’s largest pro-family, pro-church, pro-private and home school, and pro-tax reform organization.) http://www.advanceamerica.com/blog/?p=1849 After reading these, you may want to reevaluate your somewhat superficial and naive statements about this legislation.
