Redistricting & Funding

Posted

Editor, Times-Union:
It has been reported that because Indiana is not redrawing Congressional Districts, Indiana will receive less federal funding. Following is the solution:
We end up following Washington’s rules to get our own tax dollars back. We need to tell our U.S. Congresspeople and U.S. Senators to stop sending money to states and municipalities. We also need to tell our state representative and state senators to stop sending money to municipalities.
If a municipality wants to do something, the money should come from municipal taxes. If a state wants to do something the money should come from state taxes. Each level of government would fund only its own expenses.
There would be no “free money” from a higher level of government. Actually, there is no “free money” now, since we send our tax dollars to Washington or our state capitals. Plus we have to follow their rules to get our own money back.
