Red Cross

Editor, Times-Union:

In the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12, the American Red Cross was mobilized immediately to provide our partner society with the necessary resources to respond. As the dust settles and the assessment and relief operation begins, we need your help more than ever.

In the early days of the relief operation, trained Red Cross specialists will determine the full extent of the damage. As in most earthquakes, we expect to see immediate needs for food, water, temporary shelter, medical services and emotional support. To meet these needs, we have sent thousands of family kits that include blankets, kitchen sets and water containers. We remain in close contact with the Haitian Red Cross and our other Red Cross and Red Crescent partners, receiving regular updates and monitoring their needs.

We are helping to provide critical assistance to upwards of a million people affected by the earthquake and its aftershocks. To meet the current and ongoing needs, and to support humanitarian relief activities, our disaster response experts have joined our staff in Haiti where they are contributing to relief efforts.

For those of interested in helping the people of Haiti by monetary donation there are three ways to do so:

1. Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to our Haiti Relief Fund.

2. Go to www.RedCross.org and donate online.

3. Monetary donations are also being accepted at the local Red Cross Chapter, 320 N. Buffalo St.t, Warsaw, IN 46580

Thank you so much for your ongoing support in this time of need.
