Recesses

Editor, Times-Union:
I am a 5th grade student at Harrison Elementary School.

I think that there should be at least two recesses for each grade through high school.  One reason more recess helps students is because it relieves school stress that may make a student not concentrate.  One recess or no recess at all is not enough to get rid of all that stress.

Another thing that more recess can do is it lets students catch up with their friends that may or may not be in their class.  Students are not allowed to talk freely during class or sometimes not at all, so recess is more of a help to students than just school, school, school.

One more thing that more recess can do is it increases the blood supply to the brain.  Recess energizes and pumps bloods to the brain faster because the students are either moving or the students have less stress on their mind.  If you have a better blood flow you concentrate better.  This is true for students and adults.

The solution is simply more recess should be given and the students should have freedom to run and play.  All I can do now is hope that people will do what’s best for the students.
